Schools Mathematics Grand Challenge

The Hamilton Maths Grand Challenge is an online mathematics contest, aimed at secondary school students of all ages, who are studying mathematics at any level. The contest consists of thirty puzzles, posted on the challenge website, over ten weeks, and there are prizes for the best student overall, the best student within each participating school, and the best school. The main goals of the contest are to promote awareness of mathematics and its exciting application among second-level students, and to help identify latent, untapped mathematical talent within the school system.

The contest does not require advanced mathematical training, or exposure to higher mathematics. In fact, the puzzles are designed to assume a minimum of mathematical knowledge, and, instead focus on testing the creative problem-solving abilities of the students taking part.

The winners of the contest will be presented with their prizes at an awards ceremony at NUI Maynooth in February/March, 2008.
