Schools Mathematics Grand Challenge

2006 Rules of Competition:

Updated rules for 2006-2007 will be here soon.

  1. The overall competition winner will be the competitor with the highest number of correct answers to the twenty puzzles posted on the competition website.
  2. The winner within each school will be the competitor within the school with the highest number of correct answers to the twenty puzzles posted on the competition website.
  3. The overall winner will also win the iPod prize for their school.
  4. In the schools competition, the score of each school will be the sum of the scores of the best five competitors from the school. The school with the highest aggregate score will be the winner.
  5. Competitors may only register once. Use of multiple IDs are not allowed and may result in disqualification.
  6. Multiple solutions are not allowed. If you submit several answers to a puzzle, only your FIRST submission will be considered. So be certain that you are happy with your answer before submitting it.
  7. Ties in the individual competition will be settled with a selection of tie-break puzzles done under supervised conditions at NUI Maynooth in April.
  8. Ties in the school's competition will be handled by examining the scores of the best 6 students rather than the best 5. If there is still a tie, the scores of the best 7 will be considered and so on until a clear winner is determined.
