Systems Biology
now occupies a key position within the life sciences
and is set to play an ever more important role in advancing our
understanding of living organisms. The level of activity in the area
has risen significantly in the recent past, and the term Systems
Biology now covers a very broad range of topics, ranging from
cutting-edge experimental techniques to novel mathematical theories and
results. The emphasis on integrative approaches, in contrast to
reductionism, provides a unifying theme for these seemingly disparate
aspects of Systems Biology.
The 2nd
International Workshop on Systems Biology, hosted by the Hamilton Institute, will provide a forum
for researchers working in key areas of Systems Biology. Plenary talks will cover the areas (i) Modelling
of Spatial and Temporal Signals; (ii) Dynamics in Biology and Physiology; and (iii) Mathematics of Biological
Oscillations. In addition to the keynote lectures, the workshop will include breakout sessions to give
participants the opportunity to discuss with keynote speakers and industry representatives, and a poster
session in which participants are encouraged to present results of their own research. Academic faculty
members, industrial and post-doctoral researchers and post-graduate students are invited to attend the workshop.
