About me

I was born and raised in Izmir, Republic of Turkey. I started my university education at Istanbul Technical University (Turkey) in 1996, where I studied Naval Architecture and Aeronautical Engineering (double major). In 1998, I transferred to the Aerospace Engineering Department at the Middle East Technical University (Ankara,Turkey). There, I obtained my undergraduate degree with the top graduation record in 2001. The same year I started my gradute studies at Purdue University (West Lafayette, USA) at the School of Aeronautics & Astronautics, which was funded by a fellowship from the university. I obtained my M.Sc. in 2003 from Purdue, and with a funding from the Science Foundation Ireland I commenced my Ph.D. at the Hamilton Institute located in National University of Ireland-Maynooth. I spent first 16 months of my PhD at DaimlerChrysler Research AG in Esslingen, Germany, where I had first hand experience with the state of art research work in automotive dynamics control & estimation. There, I mainly worked on Kalman filters applied to GPS-INS systems for automotive attitude determination. Upon my return to Hamilton Institute in October 2004, I have been a member of the Hybrid Systems and the Automotive Dynamics groups. My research involved the development of novel estimation and control algorithms for estimating and mitigating automotive rollover. I also worked on several theoretical problems on the stability of switched dynamical systems, which are motivated by and applied to the control of automotive lateral and roll dynamics. I defended my PhD thesis on November 29th, 2007 and since then I am employed as a postdoctoral researcher at the Hamilton Institute.
