By convention and tradition, the study of disease has been the exclusive domain of biologists, physiologists, medics and pharmacologists. However, things are changing, and increasingly researchers from the physical and chemical engineering fields are applying their systems analysis skills to the task of understanding the numerous highly complex diseases that have so far confounded the conventional approach.

We focus upon one neurodegenerative disease – Parkinsons Disease. In this context, the aim of this portal is: (a) at a conceptual level to illustrate how a systems approach can be formulated for the study of disease, and (b) at a practical level, to provide an integrated knowledge base on mathematical and systems approaches to the study of Parkinson's Disease. It should be thought of as a community-driven information source: if you are a visitor who is researching in this field from a systems perspective, then we invite you to contact us for details on how to be listed in this site and the criteria for joining this newly born community.
